Woke up to a torturous morning—twice woken up by Wild Girl who later told me I was “an angry thing.” I apologized. Finally, finally fell back to sleep and had bizarre dreams about warehouses. I brought Glamour Girl with me to the doctor’s this morning, she swore a solemn oath that she would not speak while in the office. But as we drove off I realized I was out of windshield wiper fluid which added to my already blurred view of reality. I considered pulling into someone’s driveway and stealing some water from a hose, but decided against it. At the doctor’s office I walked three times around the building looking for a hose—no such luck. Once they opened I went into the bathroom with a two gallon jug and, using Glamour Girl’s water bottle, poured water into it from the tiny sink, then snuck back out and filled up the washer reservoir while traffic roared past. It was a busy road. I was in and out of the office pretty fast, and given the extra time I asked Glamour Girl if she wanted to see if the carousel in Willowbrook Park was open. Of course she said YES and we pulled into the park on our way home. You can see the carousel here: http://www.sigreenbelt.org/About/Carousel/Aboutcarousel.htm ...and if you noticed the hours of operation, it was, tragically, closed! Instead we took a walk around the lake where, as we rounded a bend that led out of a forested area, we saw a breathtaking white crane stretch out its wings and take flight. Glamour Girl gasped in astonishment, and so did I—it was that beautiful. She then chased ducks and harassed the geese; at one point a park worker with a bucket asked us if we wanted to see a turtle he had rescued from the (previously mentioned busy) road. We said yes, and peered over a steep tree root to see a yellowish turtle perched on the series of roots that created a small ledge near the water. It looked alarmed and dazed, but otherwise content. |
