It was warm today. Balmy! I dragged the kids outside despite Mr. Crazy's feverish protests ("I hate nature!") and made them play... on the grass... outside... breathing the "fresh" air... the kids were very excited to see a scaffolding going up on a nearby building, and we listened to the keening of drills and saws or whatever it is the madman whose yard adjoins ours uses. I cut down the roses-- it has taken me at least six different sessions of pruning to get this far, since my right arm isn't much good-- but I got most of the thorny branches down and in the garbage bag. Then back inside, cooked good food for me, gross food for the kids, and everyone was happy. I found jasmine rice at the grocery store!! It tastes exactly like the rice from Chinese restaurants. Slightly sweet and very sticky. Finally! I have been wondering for years when the grocery store would improve its "international foods" aisle to include something other than German sauerkraut and jarred matzoh balls that look like pieces of brain in formaldehyde. What did I expect? This borough didn't even have a BOOK STORE until 1999. I cooked the (jasmine) rice, and made broccoli, dandelion greens, orange bell pepper, and mushrooms with an orange sauce. Then I made some cookie bars without eggs. |
