I have been thinking that it's not happiness that people ought to aim for in life, rather, it's a sense of peace. Happiness can actually be a very unpeaceful emotion. The people you see on television look positively electric in their happiness, over the top, a tiring happiness. The best feeling I've ever come across is peace, calm, a sense of quiet, that there is nothing pulling at you in your heart or your mind.

Here and there I get this feeling. I wish someone had told me this when I was younger... don't look for happiness... look for peace, find the thing that will give you a sense of peace... it could have saved me some anguish, but I think I was prone to anguish, particularly as a teenager. A lot of teenagers are. Maybe my lot in life is to be a shrink for troubled teens. I can still remember it, so clearly, the sense of being trapped, of the sentence ending that day, that moment, nowhere to go. There were so many, many places to go, however, but I didn't see them. Nobody showed those places to me, either. Please God let me show my children those places.
